You can retake the exam 3 times within a one year period. You cannot schedule a retake at the test center since you need to wait 24 hours before scheduling. They will give you instructions on how to schedule a retake though.
After taking the exam, you will receive a score report with your numeric score. It will also give you information about the failed portion of the exam along with information about retaking your exam.
They will tell you the number of questions in each content area that you answered correctly. Content area information that they provide is a general guide for study purposes. You should review all content areas before retaking the exam.
After January 1, 2016, anyone who fails the exam three times cannot retake the licensing exam or submit a new TREC license application until additional education has been completed.
- For each failed portion of the exam, you will need to take an additional 30 classroom hours. This means that if you failed either the National or State portion, you need to do an additional 30 classroom hours. If you failed both the National and State portions three times, you need to do 60 additional hours.
- Once you complete these extra hours, email your completion certificates along with a copy of your third failed score report to TREC at firstname.lastname@example.org. It will take them about 5-7 days to process and re-authorize you with Pearson VUE so that you can reschedule your exam.
- Retake your exam and pass! If you only failed one portion of the exam, that is the only portion you have to retake. You do not have to retake the entire exam unless you failed both portions.
- If your TREC application expires, you must reapply.
