What is a Character and Fitness Review and do I need to submit one?

The purpose of the character and fitness review is to ensure that an applicant meets the requirements for character and fitness necessary to protect the public interest and promote public confidence in the real estate brokerage business.

An individual with a criminal history may petition the Commission for a predetermination of whether the individual’s criminal history will likely disqualify the individual from obtaining a real estate license. This petition can be made at any time, including before taking the 75-hour North Carolina Broker Prelicensing Course.

You can find the Petition For Pre-Determination Form here under “Application Forms.” Please note that you will have to make a NCREC account to access and complete  this form.
