What happens if I fail my real estate licensing exam?

Before you can retake a failed section of the license examination during your initial 180-day Exam Eligibility Period, you will need to return to their application portal at www.ncrec.gov, verify that the information in your original application has not changed, refile your application with the Commission, and pay another application fee.

An updated Notice of Exam Eligibility will be issued that specifies which exam section(s) you are authorized to retake and the remaining dates within their Exam Eligibility Period.

You have unlimited attempts to take your licensing exam as long as you are within 10 days of your 180-day eligibility period. Keep in mind, though, that each attempt will cost an additional $50-60 depending on whether you are retaking both sections or just one.

If you failed your licensing exam, you cannot reattempt the same day. Instead, you can contact Pearson VUE the next day to reschedule by calling them at 800-745-2627 or going online to reschedule your exam here.
